Town of Middletown named chamber 'Business of the Year'

Delhi — The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, celebrating their own “50th Anniversary,” will recognize several businesses and individuals for their service to the county’s business community at its 2012 Annual Awards Dinner.

The business community of the Town of Middletown will be the recipient of “Business of the Year. In 2011, the Middletown business community was ravaged by hurricanes Irene and Lee, bringing the Town of Middletown to a complete standstill.

“We are all aware that our Main Streets and small businesses are the economic drivers of our small communities and were fearful of the unknown and of their ability to bounce back and reopen, stated Mary Beth Silano, executive director of the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce.

“Whether it was collecting food, water, clothes or just someone to lean on, with the help and determination of all, the Town of Middletown, is again, open for business, meeting the needs of the communities; proving that hard work and determination equals success. This also proved to me that the force of Irene and Lee does not compare to the force and strength of mind of the Town of Middletown’s business community,” continued Silano.

Bob Vitti, owner of Renaissance Restorations of Walton Lumber and Building Supplies, LLC will be the receiver of “New Business of the Year.” Tourism Property of the Year will be presented to Al Carpenter, owner of Al’s Sport Store and the Downsville Motel.

The Delaware County Chamber’s Annual Dinner will be held Thursday, September 27. The cocktails hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a buffet dinner and awards to follow at Hanah Country Club, in Margaretville. Dinner is $60 per person, $115 per couple. Seating is limited.
