Tour Woodchuck Lodge this weekend
Roxbury —Woodchuck Lodge, the farmhouse where naturalist John Burroughs spent summers from 1910 to 1920, will be open for free tours from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, Sunday and Monday, July 3, 4 and 5.
The lodge is located at 1633 Burroughs Memorial Road, Roxbury, 12474. Follow signs from Route 30, just north of Roxbury, where holiday weekend activities include a street fair Saturday. For more information on the lodge and Burroughs, look for Howie Futterman and the Raptor Project’s birds at the Woodchuck Lodge table at the street fair.
Visitors are invited to tour the lodge, and enjoy quiet moments of contemplation at Burroughs Memorial Field just up the road, where the naturalist is buried beside his treasured Boyhood Rock. The site features an outdoor exhibit on his life and work, and tables for picnicking. Information: 586-4973.
