Time and Time Again Show at Fairview
Margaretville — An exhibit of 15 digital photo collages – blended images of historic and contemporary photographs – is now on view at Fairview Public Library, Walnut Street, Margaretville, through Nov- ember 30.
“Middletown: Time and Time Again,” by Deposit photographer and artist Michael Musante, is a visual investigation into the effects and consequences of the passing of time. The exhibit, sponsored by the Historical Society of the Town of Middletown and is made possible in part by the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program, administered in Delaware County by The Roxbury Arts Group.
Each piece in the exhibit is assembled from two images, an old and a new photograph of the same scene. The images are perfectly sized and aligned in the computer, as if on tracing paper, one image revealed through the other. The old and new are juxtaposed, an example being the turn-of-the-century man striding across Margaretville’s Main Street towards O’Connor Pharmacy, seemingly about to encounter a 2011 pedestrian who has just taken a seat on the bench outside what is now Miller’s Drug Store.
“This exhibit demonstrates wordlessly that we are all part of the continuum of this place,” remarked HSM President Diane Galusha.
Michael Musante is a native of Long Island and a graduate of the Pratt Institute where he majored in photography and minored in graphic design and architecture.
He served as staff photographer for a number of studios in New Jersey and New York and has exhibited at galleries and art shows throughout the region, from Rockland County to Cooperstown.
He is a member of the Catskill Artisans Guild in Margaretville.
