Thomas Phillips

Thomas J. Phillips of Denver, N.Y. passed away on Friday, August 7, 2009. He was formerly of Closter, N.J. He was a retired captain of the Closter, N.J. Police Department and a life member and Ex-Chief of Closter Volunteer Fire Department for 55 years. He founded the Closter Junior Volunteer Fire Department and was also former captain of the Closter Volunteer Ambulance and Rescue Corps.
Tom served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 as radio specialist operator.
After retiring from the Closter Police Department Tom and his wife Gwen moved to “God’s Country” and Tom became a volunteer member of the Margaretville Fire Department.
Tom was an avid gardener, reader, creative woodworker and fly-fisherman.
Surviving are his loving wife and best friend Gwen (nee Pellegrin); his faithful dog “Beau”; devoted father of Beverly Ann Watkins (David) of Closter, NJ, Lynda Ann Schaller (Peter) of Closter, NJ and Thomas John Phillips (“Cheryl”) of Fleischmanns. Special PiPa to Cody Malvern Watkins of Closter, NJ, Travis Thomas Watkins of Closter, NJ, Schuyler Mackenzie Watkins of Closter, NJ, Thomas Joseph “TJ” Phillips of Fleischmanns and “Rosie” Schaller.

Burial will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Bedell Cemetery in Fleischmanns.
