STS opens season with 'Spitfire Grill'

Phoenicia — The Shandaken Theatrical Society (STS) Playhouse in Phoenicia will present “The Spitfire Grill” a musical about a mysterious stranger that arrives alone in a small town and finds love and family. “The Spitfire Grill” opens Memorial Day Weekend and will start a new theatre season in a town that is rebounding after the effects of Hurricane Irene.

The STS production is directed by Glenn Laszlo Weiss, musical Director Andrew Goodsight, and stars Jax Denise, Ann Davies, Sean Connelly, Deb Warren, Karen Forray, Rich Quinn and Shawn Jensen. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 4:00 p.m. from May 25 to June 10. Tickets are $15 and $13 for members and seniors over 65. Friday nights are date nights when two tickets are available for $20. All ticket proceeds to the non-profit theater will help continue to repair and refurbish the 125-year-old building.

I hope that people come into town to shop, have dinner and see the show,” says Robert Stanley, town supervisor in Shandaken. “ The STS Playhouse is a very important part of the community. With this new season, the bridge repair, the new businesses and summer visitors coming, I am very encouraged about the economy in Phoenicia.”

“The Spitfire Grill” is produced by The STS as part of their latest season. The remainder of the season will include “A Thousand Clowns”, Neil Simon’s “The Sunshine Boys”, “The Lady with all the Answers -The Ann Landers Play” and the musical “Working” based on the Studs Terkel book. The theatre will host a summer children’s theatre program, offer its regular monthly movies, Uncle Rock Concerts and many other special performances.
