Stamford girl takes first place in opening spelling bee

Stamford — Ariana Rebecca Seton, a fourth-grader at Stamford Central School, successfully spelled the word “contrast” to win an MP3 player in the Delaware and Otsego county Arts and Cultural Spelling Bee. Eleven-year-old sixth-grader Jessica M. Alexander emerged victorious in her grade group when she spelled “designer” correctly.
The Stamford Bee, which took place on Feb. 25 was one of 16 planned for Delaware and Otsego counties in a Community Collaboration between the Creating Rural Opportunities Partnership (CROP) The Roxbury Arts Group (RAG) and the Bright Hill Press Literary Center in Treadwell.
Funded by The Tianaderrah Foundation and Kids in the Kaatskills, the project is intended to create greater understanding of the arts and artistic terminology among children ages 9 through 13.
Additional Spelling Bees are planned this spring
