Spring trial set for local woman in theft incidents
By Brian Sweeney
A Margaretville woman who is accused of stealing more than $21,000 from two people pled not guilty to the charges in a November 23 appearance in Delaware County Court.
Barbara B. Ackerley, 58, was arrested last June. She was charged with two counts of third-degree grand larceny. Ackerley is accused of taking the money from two elderly victims who had been in her care. Both of the theft victims reside in the Town of Middletown.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies said she took the money over a period of several years, beginning in February 2006.
Following her arrest, a restraining order was put in place to prevent her from having contact with the victims.
A person is guilty of third-degree grand larceny when he or she steals property and the value of the property exceeds $3,000. Third-degree grand larceny is a class D felony.
Ackerley has been released on her own recognizance. Her trial is scheduled to take place during the April 26 term.
