SK boys fall in state tourney
The South Kortright boys’ soccer season came to an end Saturday when the Rams dropped a tough 5-1 match to Hamilton Central School in the quarterfinal of the Class D state tournament. Despite a 1-1 score with just under 30 minutes left to play, two goals within 10 minutes robbed the Rams of the momentum. Below, South Kortright’s Josh Palmatier (20) rises above a pack of Hamilton defenders, including Daniel Kraynak (8), Tyler White (18) and Blaine Holcomb (7), to win a head ball in the driving rain that characterized the day’s playing conditions.
South Kortright head coach Bob VanValkenburgh earned his first sectional title this year, South Kortright’s first since 1968, to send him to the state playoffs for the first time. VanValkenburgh is the son of Mary Alice Wiedemann of Roxbury.
