Siegfried Otto Burkhardt, 72, of Pine Hill died on Friday, Nov. 9, 2012.
He was born December 27, 1939 in Massebach, Germany, the son of Fritz and Rosa Burkhardt. He immigrated to Brooklyn in 1951, later moving to a farm in Jefferson.
Siegfried enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1963 and was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC in the Airborne Corps. After his discharge, Siegfried worked in the knitting/textile industry in Queens until his retirement in 2004. He then moved to his weekend home in Pine Hill and worked several winters at Belleayre Mountain Ski Center.
Throughout his life Siegfried enjoyed skiing, hunting, fishing, traveling, reading, his backyard wildlife, and his beloved cat, Maggie.
He was predeceased by his mother in 1959 and his father in 1942.
Surviving are a cousin, George Hasay and his wife Brenda of Fleischmanns; an aunt, Elfriede Burkhardt and a cousin, Margarete Seiz and her daughter, Nadine Frick, all of Germany.
Calling hours were held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16 at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday Nov. 17, 2012 at the Hynes Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Dykstra officiated.
A committal service, with military honors, followed at the Bedell Cemetery in Fleischmanns.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
