Samuel Boice Sr., 64, of Dimmick Mountain Road, Denver, died April 17, 2012 at Kingston Hospital.
Samuel was born May 23, 1947 in New York City, the son of Michael and Florence (Aloti) Boice. He married Asunta (Cerchio) on December 23, 1967 on Staten Island.
Samuel served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970 and was awarded a PurpleHeart and a Bronze Star. He was a prisoner of war during the Vietnam War. Before entering the service he worked for Nassau Smelting and Refining on Staten Island.
Samuel moved to this area from Staten Island in 1985 and made this his permanent residence.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #216, the VFW and the DAV. Samuel attended the Sacred Heart Church in Margaretville. Samuel enjoyed fising, hunting, and car shows. He also had a die cast truck collection.
He is survived by his wife, Asunta Boice; one son, Samuel Boice Jr.; one daughter, Christine Boice and two grandchildren, Caranne and Alexi. Also surviving are a brother, Mike Boice; two sisters, Susan and Rosemarie; a sister in-law AnnMarie (Patrick) Cerchio; a niece, Melissa; a nephew, Michael and several other nieces and nephews.
Calling hours were held from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday April 21, 2012 at the Hynes Funeral Home. A funeral mass was celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Monday April 23, 2012 at the Sacred Heart Church, Margaretville.
A committal service with military honors was held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at the Gerald B. H. Solomon National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
Donations in memory of Samuel Boice Sr. may be made to the Dialysis Center at the Kingston Hospital, Kingston.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
