Ruth M. Storey, 85, of Broadstreet Hollow Road, Shandaken died Thursday March 29, 2012 at the Golden Hill Health Care Center in Kingston, where she was lovingly cared for by her Golden Hill Family.
A native and life-long area resident, Ruth formerly had worked at the Kingston Cigar Factory, had been housekeeper for the Rubin Family, and had worked at Rotron. She was a talented baker and an avid reader. She was a spirited woman who was always up for an adventure or to go for a ride.
She was born May 31, 1926 in Lanesville, daughter of the late Vincent and Viola Mildred North Eckert.
Surviving are her son, Ronald and his wife Judy Eckert of Kingston; daughter-in-law, Linda Storey of Shandaken; two sisters, Rose Marie and Jack Becker and Pearl and Joe Edwards. Also surviving are five grandchildren, William Eckert, Vicky Famiglietti, and Kristi, Chad, and Marshall Storey and five great-grandchildren, Sabrina, Logan, Jacob, Mercedez and Zachary.
She was predeceased by her husband Marshall “Sonny” Storey in 1992; her son Bruce in 2009 and her sibling Doris Schaeffer, Shirley Pape, Vera Merwin, Vincent “Buddy” Eckert and Walter Eckert.
Friends and family gathered to honor and remember Ruth on Monday from noon till 2 p.m. at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home.
A service to celebrate the life of Ruth Storey was held on Monday, April 2 at 2 p.m. at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home, 87 Main Street, Phoenicia.
Burial is in the Shandaken Cemetery.
