Roxbury student wins MTC cover photo contest

Roxbury Central School sophomore Danielle Fichtner is the winner of a photo contest and her work will appear on the 2014-15 Margaretville Telephone Co. directory.
Officials at the Margaretville Telephone Company (MTC) decided to hold a competition among local students to seek a photographic selection for use on the cover of the new phone book. Area schools were contacted and students studying photography were invited to enter their works.
“We received 27 submissions and through a process of elimination chose a photograph submitted by Danielle Fichtner,” explained MTC Plant Manager Steve Finch.
“The directory will be in distribution mid-summer. MTC will be presenting a $200 donation to the RCS photography department for submitting the photo chosen for our directory cover,” he added.
A nice gift
The efforts of the Roxbury photography class received a nice boost last November when the board of education accepted a donation of $1,032 from the Michelle MacNaught Memorial Fund for the purpose of purchasing four digital camera kits.
Longtime RCS staff member Mary McNaught established the fund in memory of her daughter, Michelle, who passed away in 2011 at the age of 21 after a long fight against cancer. Michelle was a well-regarded artist and her mother felt that the donation toward a camera purchase would help further students’ artistic pursuits.
