Roxbury News: August 10, 2011

Elna Hinkley has returned home after spending a week at Mamaroneck in Westchester County visiting Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Iacovelli and family. While there they visited the Botanical Gardens in the Bronx.
George and Julia Brower visited his sisters, Nancy and Joan Brower, in Albany Wednesday, Aug. 3 which was his birthday. They celebrated George’s 85th birthday by going out for dinner.

Danny Underwood and grandson, Andrew, visited his son, John and wife, Cathy this past weekend at their new house in South Portland, Maine. They also enjoyed fishing for striped bass and mackerel and reported success in their endeavor.

Dora Fowler, who retired from a longtime teaching career at RCS during the past year, will celebrate her 92nd birthday this Sunday, Aug. 14.

Nancy Van Valkenburgh St. John of Milford and a former native of Roxbury, visited Catherine Fleming at Elizabeth Church Manor in Binghamton Thursday. Miss Fleming was a teacher at Roxbury Central School from 1933-1945. Esther Snyder and George Tischmacher also called on her seventh- and eighth- grade teacher on Friday. Miss Fleming, who will celebrate her 97th birthday on August 21, is recuperating from a broken leg in the Methodist rest home which was the result of a fall.
Our community has suffered a great loss this past month with the passing of three of our residents: July 8, Vincent Wojciechowski; July 9, Rolf Heiseler and July 29, Elton Ridge. Our sympathy is extended to these families.
