Roxbury falls to Milford in tourney opener

By John Bernhardt
The Roxbury boys’ basketball team is searching for offensive answers at the start of a new campaign.  The Rockets played hard defensively, staying close into the second half of both contests at Milford’s Anton Remy Tip-Off Tournament, but lacked the offensive firepower needed to bring home a victory.
The Rockets battled tourney winner Cherry-Valley hard in opening-round action, trailing 26-20 at the half.

Points were hard to come by for the Rockets in the second half.  A six-point third quarter was Roxbury’s undoing with the Rockets falling 45-35 to the Patriots.

Kyle Jaquay and Isiah Montgomery each scored 15 points to pace the Patriots.
Dakota Caronia netted a team-high 12 points for Roxbury.  Spencer Hinkley’s three, three-point goals were the lion’s share of his 10 points.

The three-point shot spelled the difference in Franklin’s 35-25 victory over Roxbury in the consolation game.  Alex Brownell hit six treys while scoring 20 of the Purple Eagles’ 35 points.

A tough night at the foul line hurt the Rockets’ chances.  Roxbury hit only one of eight shots from the charity stripe.

Dakota Caronia’s eight points paced Roxbury’s offense.  Spencer Hinkley was named to the all-tournament team for Roxbury.
