Roxbury Community Christmas Project celebrates successful season of support

Roxbury — Bonnie Walker, chair of the Roxbury Community Christmas Project, reported 49 families and 33 senior citizens in the Roxbury area received boxes from the project this year. Items included in the family boxes were a turkey, potatoes, fresh fruits and vegetables, stuffing, gravy, brownie mix, and an assortment of homemade cookies and breads.
Senior citizens received complete turkey dinners that had been prepared and frozen by the Roxbury Central School 8th-grade home and careers classes under the direction of their instructor Mary MacNaught. The boxes were made possible thanks to generous donations of baked goods and funds by Roxbury residents.
Two area businesses, Freshtown in Margaretville and Jim’s Great American in Prattsville also made generous donations of food products to the project. In all over $3,000 in food was distributed by almost a dozen local citizens who helped deliver the boxes. Mrs. Walker reports plans for the 2010 project have already begun.
