Robert A. Bouton, 77, formerly of Highmount, died Friday Jan. 31, 2014 at Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville.
He was born December 20, 1936 in Margaretville, son of the late Robert and Margaret Greene Bouton. A native and lifelong area resident, he worked in the lumber industry most all of his life. He had been employed at Mayes Veneer factory in Fleischmanns many years ago, and logged for Fairbairn’s in Margaretville. He was a heavy equipment operator, as well as skilled at cutting trees with a chainsaw. He was quick with a crossword puzzle, and always enjoyed a fine meal.
Surviving is his daughter, Darlene Sweet of Shandaken; a brother, Thomas of Halcott Center, and a sister, Dianne Schlee of Roxbury. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by his wife, Joan in 1994, and a brother, Ronald.
Friends will be received on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home, Phoenicia.
A vigil service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 3 p.m. at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home, 87 Main Street, Phoenicia with the Rev. Raphael Iannone officiating.
Spring interment will be in the Halcott Cemetery.
