Reward for vandalism info grows to $800
Margaretville — A reward fund for the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for vandalism at the Margaretville Cemetery on or about August 6 has grown from $600 to $800 over the past week.
The reward fund started when Margaretville Mayor Bill Stanton offered $100, which was then matched by the Catskill Mountain News. Margaretville resident Steve Meinstein read the story of the cemetery damage in last week’s paper and called Friday to add his $100 to the fund.
On Monday of last week the News received an email from Mike Thompson and Alison Crandall of Denver, who had also read the story, and they offered to add $200 to the fund.
On Tuesday of last week the News received another email, this one from Robert Rowe of Rochester, who offered to add another $100 to the reward.
Last week David Burrows of New Kingston offered to add an additional $100 and an anonymous donor has also added $100, bringing the fund to $800.
All donors have agreed that if no arrest is made in the case within six months, the reward money will be used to help repair the damage in the cemetery. Anyone wishing to add to the reward/damage repair fund should send their check to: Village Clerk, Village of Margaretville, Box 228, 12455 and write on the check that it is for the cemetery reward.
Anyone with information about the cemetery vandalism should contact Margaretville Mayor Bill Stanton at 586-4441 or the New York State Police at their Dunraven barracks at 586-2681.
All information will be held in strict confidence.
