RCS tennis team earns win, tie in league competition
The Roxbury Rockets tennis team hosted the visiting Wildcats of Charlotte Valley on April 29 in a match that Roxbury won 4-3. Top-seeded players Christian Schor (Roxbury) and Ray Beams (Davenport) battled to a 9-9 tie, which Beams won in a tie-breaker.
Roxbury’s number-two single’s player, Alisa Fersch defeated Davenport’s Nic Brown 9-1 as the Rockets’ third-seeded Jon Dykstra defeated Davenport’s Megan Hotaling 9-7. Roxbury’s Kevin Lutz won the number-four singles match in a tie-breaker over Davenport’s Brad Teator after the two players battled to a 9-9 tie.
Davenport’s Amber Roe won the fifth-seeded singles match by forfeit.
In doubles competition, the Wilcats’ top-seeded duo of Zach Consler and Michael Zimmerman defeated the Rockets’ Marina Eignor and Brittney Bell 9-4 as Roxbury’s Kaitlin Brew and Tiffany Faulkner won the number-two doubles match over Ben Rogers and Ashley Decker.
The Rockets returned to competition on Thursday, battling the visiting Windham-Ashland-Jewitt team to a 3-3 tie in league competition at Roxbury.
Windham’s top-seeded singles player, Alex Porter, defeated Roxbury’s Schor 9-1 as second-seeded Nick Porter of Windham defeated Fersch 9-4. Carl Goettche, Windham’s number-three, defeated Dykstra 9-4. Lutz tallied his ninth win of the season to advance to 9-1 overall, defeating Windham’s Zack Black 9-4.
Roxbury dominated the doubles competition, as Rockets duo Eignor and Bell defeated Windham’s Laura Lawrence and Hannah Verheven 9-1 and Roxbury’s second-seeded doubles team of Brew and Faulkner won by forfeit.
