RCS and ACS name their top graduates
Top graduates for the Class of 2014 have been announed at Andes and Roxbury central Schools.
Andes Central School
Andes Central School has announced that Josephine DeSanto is this year’s Valedictorian and Jonathan Andrews is the Salutatorian.
While at ACS, Josephine DeSanto has been active in the National Honor Society Drama Club, SADD, band and chorus and basketball. She served as president of the Science Club. She has attended Area All-State Chorus, All-County Chorus and the New York State School Music Association.
Josephine plans to attend Colorado School of Mines and major in chemistry.
She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William DeSanto.
Jonathan Andrews has been named Salutatorian for the class of 2014.
While at ACS, Jonathan has served as president of the National Honor Society and as vice president of his class. He also has been active in yearbook, track, Outdoor Club, Ski Club, All-County Chorus and Drama Club. This past year he was student director and scriptwriter of the school musical “Star Trek Goes Broadway.”
Jonathan plans to attend SUNY Oneonta and major in history.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Andrews.
Roxbury Central School
Joseph W. McAfee is Valedictorian of the Roxbury Central School Class of 2014 and Joshua Riley is the Salutatorian.
In academic programs, Joseph McAfee is president of the Science Olympiad team, Student Council, and of the National Honor Society. Joseph has received the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award, the Oyaron Scholarship and the Joe Beck Scholar Athlete Award. He also earned the New York State Scholarship for Academic Excellence.
In music, Joseph has attended Area All-State for three years on alto saxophone, and was first chair alto saxophone as a senior. He is a member of the Roxbury band and chorus programs. He partakes in the singing or playing of the National Anthem and Alma Mater at all home basketball games.
Joseph’s community involvement includes hosting and producing a radio show for WIOX Roxbury every Saturday night. He has attended Relay for Life twice, helping to raise money for the fight against cancer.
This fall, Joseph will be attending the pre-engineering program at Hartwick College in Oneonta.
He is the son of Michael and Connie McAfee.
Joshua Riley is the Salutatorian of the graduating Class of 2014 at Roxbury Central School.
Josh is a member of the National Honor Society and was one of the 10 directors for the annual student leadership conference held at SUNY Oneonta. Josh has volunteered for all of the following functions: Hurricane Irene cleanup, Relay for Life and The Roxbury Christmas Project.
In addition, Josh has spent countless hours volunteering in his mother’s classroom, helping her teach math lessons and other activities during his lunch period. Josh also has volunteered many hours teaching RCS students how to ski at Plattekill Mountain and teaching many kids how to play tennis at his place of work, Tennis Everyone.
During the last four years, Josh has participated in varsity soccer and varsity tennis and received Scholar Athlete awards in both sports, every year. Josh was the captain of the tennis team, he was selected as the MVP for the tennis team two years in a row, and he was named to the third team and first team All-Star list for the tennis team. He was also named to the Delaware Country Soccer All Star Team.
In the fall Joshua will be attending The College Of New Jersey, and is declared as a political science major.
He is son of Lisa and Sean Riley of Roxbury.
