Please vote in May 20 school elections

To The Editor:
It’s that time of year again. Time to get ready for school budget votes and school board member elections.
In the next few weeks, school districts will hold public budget hearings. These hearings give everyone a chance to become informed about their district’s spending plan for the upcoming year. I would like to encourage everyone to attend the budget hearings and to learn how your elected officials plan to provide for the education of our children.
Board member nominating petitions are also available now from your district office. Among the responsibilities of boards of education are deciding local policy and spending priorities. Boards are always in need of candidates who are interested in this type of community service. If you think you might be, I would again encourage you to attend a school board meeting.
Voting for school budgets and school board members will take place on May 20. Our education system relies on voters casting ballots in these local elections. Please take the time to understand the budget proposal your school board puts forward. Please take the time to talk to school board candidates and learn what their thoughts are about education today. And, please vote on May 20.
