Plattepolooza on tap Oct. 12
Roxbury — Plattekill Mountain in Roxbury will hold the 4th annual Plattepalooza on Saturday, Oct. 12
This countdown-to-winter, family-fall-festival celebration has become a popular Columbus Weekend event at the mountain and will be returning once again for its fourth year. The event brings skiers, non-skiers, mountain bikers, leaf peepers, young and old, families and friends together for a fun time to celebrate the splendor of fall.
The event will consist of several kids’ activities from face painting, pumpkin painting and temporary tattoos to a kids’ bounce house and make-your-own cider stand. You’ll also find live music from the resort favorite “The Decoys” playing on the deck. Vendors, delicious fall menu options and homemade soups as well as a variety of in-season micro-brews will be served up.
Plattepalooza festivities begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday and admission is free.
As in years past, the highlight of the event will be the mountain ski patrol’s ski, board, and bike swap sale. There will be a variety of greatly discounted items available for sale and if you have something you’d like them to sell of yours, bring it along. Fifteen percent of proceeds of sales will go to support the mountain’s volunteer ski patrol. Although Plattepalooza is a one-day event, the swap sale will take place both Saturday and Sunday.
The mountain will be accepting items for the swap sale starting Wednesday, Oct 2. Items may be brought to the resort’s guest services in the base lodge. Bring your used skis, boards, boots, bikes and apparel that don’t fit anymore…and maybe trade it for something new.
All weekend long, the mountain will feature hiking, geocaching and mountain biking and the chairlifts will operate for fall foliage sky rides, which should be at peak just in time for the holiday weekend. Rides are $7 per person.
