Pine Hill Fireman charged with arson

A Pine Hill fireman was arrested by Shandaken Police on Monday and charged with fifth-degree arson following an investigation into suspicious brush fires that had taken place between July 1 and July 11 in the area of Birch Creek Road on New York City DEP property.

Shandaken Police report that they arrested Zachary A. Rogers, 23, of Academy Street, Pine Hill and charged him with one count of fifth-degree arson, one count of fourth-degree criminal mischief and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Rogers, who is a new member of the Pine Hill Fire Department, was charged with setting one brush fire that had occurred on July 11 after witnesses and evidence collected at the scene led investigators to charge Rogers.

Rogers was issued an appearance ticket returnable in Shandaken Justice Court on July 19 at 3:30 p.m.
Shandaken Police were assisted by members of the Ulster County Fire Investigations Unit, the NYC DEP Police and the New York State Police in Kingston.
