Pine Hill Arms Triathlon set to roll Saturday

By Jay Braman Jr.
The Pine Hill Arms and Belleayre Mountain Ski Center will present the 17th annual Pine Hill Arms Triathlon this Saturday.
Created that long ago by Pine Hill Arms co-owner Robert Konefal, the race starts at 1:30 p.m. sharp at the ski center and ends on Pine Hill’s Main Street, where participants and spectators flow into the Pine Hill Arms for some post race fun.
For the uninitiated, the race can be grueling. It starts with two and half miles on skis at Belleayre and then moves to 10 miles of intense biking. The race then ends with a three- mile run. Weather conditions either help or hinder, but will not stop the race.
There are several age, gender and family categories which are as follows: Individual; 17 and under, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60 and over. Teams; under 45, 45-55 and 55 and over. All male 2 - 4 members, all female 2 - 4 members, mix team 2 – 4 members at least one female and immediate Family Team, minimum three members.
After the race the Pine Hill Arms will feature a gourmet Bayou buffet dinner and winners will receive trophies. Also, a video of the race will be shown during the party, which includes live music.
Belleayre’s Superintendent Tony Lanza has described previous races as fun, but real. “It’s a challenging 15 and-a-half mile triathlon of ski-bike-run,” he said.
Belleayre spokesman Jonathan King said on Monday that this year will be no different. “Expect to see enduring entrants and an exciting race,” King said.
The fee is $50 per racer for those who pre-register or $55 per racer for those who register on race day. All racers must pick up their bibs and be registered by 11:30 a.m. A pre race meeting and group photo is held at 12:15 p.m. Race-day registration takes place at the Longhouse Lodge at Belleayre Mountain. Included in the registration fee is a gourmet Bayou buffet dinner, triathlon T-Shirt and after race party with live music and dancing.
