Open Eye stages collage of short plays

Margaretville — Twelve short plays with titles including The Roxbury Boys; Curse the Darkness; The Guest List; The Last Customer; Lend Me a Mentor, and The Cat Fanciers will open as the production Summer Shortcuts II on Thursday, August 9 at The Open Eye Theater at 960 Main Street for eight performances.

In a mix of comedy and drama there will be three plays about a theme of “Friends,” three about “Family” and six about “Getting-to-Know-You.”

“Short plays, none more than 10 minutes long, offer a juicy variety of characters, themes and ideas,” related Amie Brockway producing artistic director. “They embody rich theater experiences for audiences and a mix of opportunities to create those experiences for the actors, directors and back stage support artists and crew.”

Area playwrights Marvin Cotlar (Boiceville), Lewis Gardner (Kingston), Wilma Mazo (Andes), Jill Ribich (Roxbury), Vern Vance (Arkville) and Edward Versailles (High Falls) have works being staged.
Open Eye actors Melissa Day and Barbara Morrow will perform and debut as directors. Mark Gunst, Wilma Mazo, and Naomi Fisch will also direct and perform. Other actors include Allegra Condon, Tom Hafner, Marge Helenchild, and Vern Vance. Patricia Brannen is stage manager, Erwin Karl is the technical director.

Show times are 7 p.m. Thursdays to Saturdays August 9 -11 and August 16 – 18 and 5 p.m. Sundays, August 12 and 19.

Dinner and theater arrangements are with Binnekill Square Restaurant, Hanah Mountainside Resort, The Inn Between and Summerfields. Patrons receive premium reserved seats at the theater after dinner, or before dinner on Sundays.
