Oct. 21, 2009: Communication + Teamwork = Success
To The Editor:
It is a great honor to have been chosen as a candidate for the important and challenging job of representing the people of Shandaken on the town board. I appreciate your efforts to be informed voters.
My adult life has been dedicated to public service as a teacher, coach and school administrator. Since retirement, I have served as an interim administrator in two local school districts in various administrative capacities. I will conclude my current appointment at Onteora in two weeks.
Over the course of my career, I have not only taught but I have learned a great deal from students, peers and community members. I have discovered that the best way to learn is to listen with an open mind, ask questions and look for resources to aid in the decision making process. I hope to be given the opportunity to continue to share my experiences and knowledge as a representative of the residents of Shandaken.
I respect the fact that serving the town as an elected official comes with great responsibility and obligation to provide equal representation to all residents. It is time to put partisan politics behind us, listen to the people and do what is best for our town now and in future years. I believe that there are many resourceful people within the town with much to offer. We must tap those resources regardless of party affiliation, difference of opinions or where they reside within the town. I have the time, the energy and skills to help make this vision a reality. I hope to be given the opportunity to prove to you that I do what I say.
The motto I have lived by in my educational career has been: Communication + Teamwork = Success. If chosen to serve as your town council, I will continue to live by this motto.
