News takes four prizes in NYPA contest
The Catskill Mountain News took two prizes for advertising and two editorial prizes in the New York Press Association’s 2008 Better Newspaper Contest.
Advertising Manager Doris Warner took a first-place award for Best Small Space Ad and won a second-place award in the Best House Ad/Ad Campaign category.
Reporter Julia Green won a third-place award in Spot News Coverage for her series of stories covering the plight of the buffaloes that were running loose in the area last summer. She also took a third-place prize for Spot News Photo for an image of a firefighter climbing a ladder, surrounded by smoke during the Brookside Hardware fire last March.
The 2008 New York Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest included submissions of work from 182 weekly newspapers. There were nearly 3,000 submissions in 60 editorial and advertising categories. A total of 436 awards were handed out across four divisions, based on circulation.
The awards were handed out last weekend at the NYPA Spring Convention held in Saratoga Springs.
