New X-ray machine debuts at Margaretville Hospital
Margaretville Hospital has added a new GE Proteus X-ray Machine which was formally unveiled at a January 15 ribbon-cutting ceremony.
This machine will allow staff to more efficiently complete exams and reduce radiation exposure for patients and staff. The equipment also provides improvements in operation, increasing comfort for patients when they are getting into position for exams.
Renovations to the Radiology X-ray Room were necessary to accommodate setup of the new equipment. As part of the project, other improvements were made to increase the overall patient experience. “We opened up the space and made the room more friendly and welcoming,” explained Radiology Manager Roberta Scism, RT, (R) (M).
The project engineering was a cooperative effort between GE personnel and the engineering team from the HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley (of which Margaretville Hospital is a member). The hospital’s maintenance staff undertook the renovations, which were completed in just over a month. The equipment purchase and related upgrades to the room were funded with New York State Rural Health grant funds.
Mrs. Scism said the Radiology Room upgrades are the most recent step in an overall plan to create a comprehensive medical services wing. Moving towards this goal, in the past five years the hospital has added digital mammography, a 16-slice CT scanner and a new echo stress machine.
“All of these changes are helping us upgrade our facility for the new millennium,” the radiology manager noted.
Margaretville Hospital is located at 42084 State Highway 28, Margaretville. For additional information about the hospital’s medical imaging services, please contact Mrs. Scism at 845 586-2631, ext. 3246.
