National Geographic Traveler gives The Roxbury a top rating
Roxbury — The cover story of the April 2009 issue of National Geographic Traveler Magazine is The 2009 Stay List: 129 Hotels We Love. The Roxbury is thrilled to announce that it was chosen out of thousands of hotels in North America to be included on the prestigious list. The Roxbury was one of only 30 hotels selected from the Eastern Half of the United States. In total, 90 were selected from the United States, 13 from Canada, 14 from Mexico, and 12 from the Caribbean.
“Despite the unsettling state of the economy, we still feel—and respond to—the urge to travel. With lodgings at every price level, our second annual Stay List features 129 listings to steer you toward authentic, transforming experiences. All in all, the roster offers a simple message: Now, more than ever, is the time to experience travel that summons up the basics — heritage, local foods, sustainable practices, cultural integrity, community involvement, and sense of place. In an uncertain world that is trying to retool itself, the places featured in our Stay List issue promise real travel at its best.” —Keith Bellows, Editor, National Geographic Traveler Mag-azine
“We felt honored not only because of being selected by one of the world’s leading travel magazines, but also because of the stringent criteria they used in making their selections, stated Greg Henderson, co-owner of The Roxbury.
“Because they are National Geographic, they weren’t just looking for great customer service or great design. Sure, there were Ritz Carltons and Fairmonts and Four Seasons selected, but luxury and price were not the only criteria. They also voted based on criteria like how the hotel engages with the local community, how it subscribes to sustainable practices that respect the region, and how it creates a “sense of place” for the area. We’re incredibly honored to be included amongst such venerable institutions as the Hay-Adams Hotel in Washington, D.C., the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston, and The Four Seasons Resort, Lanai, Hawaii,” said Mr. Henderson.
The Roxbury welcomes families, meeting groups, singles and all walks of life. Its guest register now includes visitors from more than 40 countries, including the U.K. South Africa, New Zealand, Argentina, The Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Romania, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Japan, China and many more.
