Nancy Jean Ericson, 71, a resident of Halcottsville, and formerly of Wappingers Falls, died Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.
Nancy was born May 4, 1942 at Port Chester, the daughter of Patrick and Katherine (Horbolic) Nethercott. She married John E. Ericson on April 15, 1968 at Port Chester.
Nancy taught social studies and history in the Wappingers Falls School District at the VanWyck Middle School and the John Jay High School before retiring in 1997.
Nancy and John were part-time area residents from 1980 until they both retired and moved to the Town of Roxbury in 1999.
She was a very talented quilter and was a member of the Sunbonnet Quilters Club and the Catskill Mountain Quilters. Nancy was honored by being selected to the Catskill Quilters Hall of Fame. She taught classes in making caps for premature babies. She made many quilts for family and friends to enjoy.
Nancy was an excellent baker. She also did a lot of sewing, which she enjoyed doing for her family.
She is survived by her husband, John; children, Christopher Ericson and his wife Bonnie and Karin Ericson and companion Erik Harkins, and grandchildren, Zachary, Tyler and Eliza Ericson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 2 at the Jay Gould Memorial Reformed Church in Roxbury with the Rev. Richard A. Dykstra officiating.
Calling hours will be held at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury on Thursday, May 1 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Donations in memory of Nancy may be made to the Roxbury Fire Department Ambulance Fund.
