Multi-talented Eric McKeown opens music series March 20
Roxbury — The Roxbury Arts Group’s (RAG) singer/songwriter series kicks of on Saturday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m. with Erin McKeown, an American multi-instrumentalist and folk-rock singer/songwriter in the Hilt Kelly Hall.
Although Erin started writing songs while still in high school in hometown Fredericksburg, VA, she really began earning her chops while attending Brown University, releasing two albums before graduation and gigging on weekends whenever and wherever possible. She hasn’t slowed down, famously averaging 200 live shows a year, touring throughout the world with artists such as Ani DiFranco, Patti Larkin, Josh Ritter, the Indigo Girls, Martin Sexton, Andrew Bird and others,
The Philadelphia Weekly recently described McKeown’s music, saying: “More singer-songwriters should follow the lead of Erin McKeown, the kooky songbird who’s proved both playful and daring throughout her career, with a lilting delivery and chameleonic instrumentation.”
As a multi-instrumentalist, Erin’s become in demand as a session player, recording vocals, piano, bass lines and of course guitar tracks for other artists’ records. Early in her career, she collaborated with Beth Amsel, Jess Klein and Rose Polenzani performing as Voices on the Verge who packed the house when they appeared at RAG in 2002.
McKeown’s latest record, Hundreds of Lions, was released on October 13, 2009.
