Mountainside Care Center earns another 5-star rating

Margaretville — Mountainside Residential Care Center has received a second consecutive Five-Star rating from Medicare’s “Nursing Home Compare” and are in the top 10 percent of nursing homes nationwide.

The rating system helps consumers, families and caregivers compare nursing homes and is based on data gathered from health inspections, staffing and quality measures. All nursing homes that are certified to participate in Medicare and/or Medicaid are included on Nursing Home Compare.
Philip Mehl, administrator of Mountainside Residential Care Center, said he is proud of his staff at the facility. “The nursing home survey process comprehensively observes all aspects of care provided and reviews policies and procedures for operations,” said Mehl. “Residents and family members were asked about their experiences in the nursing home, and we received no care related deficiencies.”

Mountainside’s staff includes nationally certified wound care nurses, certified resident assessment coordinators, hospice and palliative care nurses, reiki practitioners, LeadingAge Procare consultants, LCSW and LMSW social work staff, and board-certified medical directors.
“We are lucky to have so many well trained and certified staff that many larger urban facilities would wish for in our small rural facility,” Mehl said.

The health inspection ratings are calculated based on the results of nursing home surveys over the past three years. The staffing ratings are calculated based on the number of residents compared to the number of nurses attending to them. At Mountainside, their recruitment and retention numbers are far above the national average. The quality measure ratings are calculated based on 10 aspects of care.
