MFD honors four members for 50+ years of service

Four members were honored for more than a half-century of service when the Margaretville Fire Department held its Annual Dinner on Nov. 1 at the Hanah Country Resort. MFD members honored for their long years of service were: Gordy McMurray, who was honored for 50 Years of Active Service; Dick Miller, who received honors for 52 years of service to MFD; Tom Phillips, who was recognized for 56 years of active membership in fire service; and Tom Wagner, who was absent from awards dinner but also was honored for 52 years of service.
Presentations also made to the 50-year honorees included: citations of merit from Walt Geidel and Kevin Geidel representing FASNY (Firemen’s Association of New York) and Central New York Firemen’s Association. Rod Decker, representing Assemblyman Clifford Crouch’s office presented honor certificates.
Rick and Barb Funck, representing the Middletown-Hardenburgh Fire District, made a presentation in honor of the 50-year honorees. Rick Bell, Delaware County Coordinator also honored the long-time members.
Service Award Pin Recipients were: Keith Gavette, Rookie of the Year; Aaron Engel, five years of service; and Bill Blish 35 years of service. Absent was Floyd Knapp who was honored for 15 years of service.
Retired members in attendance included Lou Hamway, Bob Hill, Bob Hubbell, Willis Marks, Dick Miller and Bob VanBenschoten.
