Meet the candidates on May 7 at MCS
By Brian Sweeney
A “Meet the Candidates Night” will be hosted by the Margaretville Central School PTA on May 7 at 6 p.m. in the board room.
Kate Van Benschoten of Margaretville has filed a petition to run as a candidate for the seat vacated by longtime board of education member Barbara Funck. Mrs. Funck has decided not to seek another term.
Superintendent Tony Albanese said that a second board seat is open and will also be filled on May 15, the date of the budget vote. Mrs. Robbie Martin is currently serving in this board-appointed seat.
The superintendent said that write-in candidates are encouraged to participate in “Meet the Candidates Night.” Anyone interested in taking part is asked to confirm their attendance by contacting Mrs. Goodchild at 586-2647, ext. 10 by May 4.
A structured question-and-answer session will be held. Each candidate will be allotted time to express their reasons for interest in running for a seat on the board of education.
At 7 p.m., there will be a public hearing on the 2012-2013 budget that was adopted last week by the board.
