MCS hosts Wellness Fair

Margaretville Central School will host its Annual Wellness Fair on Friday, May 17 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at school.

A variety of organizations will be on hand to present demonstrations relating to all aspects of wellness to both students and members of the outside community. Door prizes will also be given out. “We’re trying to deal not only with the physical, but with the mental and social well-being as well,” said event co-organizers Carol Norwick and Tracy Reither.

Cornell Cooperative Extension, an outreach system of Cornell University, will be making smoothies and collaborating with a few Margaretville classes while Margaretville Hospital will present a “Great Tray” with free samples of healthy muffins, along with free blood pressure readings. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office will present information on bicycle safety and helmets. Also invited are the Delaware County Drug and Alcohol Council, the NYS Police working with our SADD chapter, Frost Valley YMCA, Gordie Faulkner demonstrating golf techniques, and the Saratoga Tree Nursery with information on trees and seedlings to give away.

Some students who participate in Excel Gymnastics of Kingston will do a demonstration as well as students involved in boxing at the Midtown Neighborhood Center in Kingston. MCS BOCES students will showcase their culinary skills and the cafeteria will do an exhibit on “My Plate.”

The Wellness Fair will be followed by the Annual MCS John Riedl Wellness Walk/Run at 1:30 p.m. Students in grades kindergarten through fifth will run from the front of the school up to the traffic light on Main Street and back, while high school students will do a 2K loop around town.
Traffic may be disrupted in the village during the run event.
