Mary D. Davis, 72, a lifetime resident of Andes, died peacefully early Sunday, May 4, 2008, at her home with her family at her side. She was born in Arkville on October 4, 1935, the daughter of the late Fred and Golda (Brown) Bell.
She married Eder C. Davis Jr. on November 10, 1951, at the Arkville Methodist Church in Arkville.
Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, knitting, crocheting, traveling and being an entrepreneur. She and her daughters had taken several cruises together.
Her many hobbies sparked several business adventures over her lifetime. She ran a diner in Pine Hill in the early 1970s. She also owned and operated The Knitting Knook in Andes from 1979 into the early 1980s. She also owned and operated Bear Hugs and Busy Hands in both Andes and Margaretville. Most recently, she had owned and operated her home as a Family Care provider for 30 years and was a past chapter president for the Delaware County Care Providers Association. She worked at Delaware County Infirmary, Mayes Veneer Factory in Fleischmanns, Kelly’s Hotel in Margaretville and was a sales representative for several home sales companies.
Surviving are her husband, Eder C. Davis Jr., Andes; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Margaret Davis, Arkville; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Jack Davis, Kingston, son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Sandy Davis, Andes, daughter, Pamela Davis and companion Steven Swart, Andes, son, Randy Davis, Downsville and son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Sue Davis, Jeffersonville. Also surviving are a brother and wife, Harry and Betty Bell, Delhi; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a brother, Richard A. Bell Sr., December 6, 2007 and a grandchild, Ronald Davis Jr. October 20, 1991.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, with the Rev. Karen Ogborn officiating.
Family and friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
Burial will be in Shavertown Cemetery in Andes.
Memorial donations may be made to Catskill Area Hospice in memory of Mary D. Davis.
