Margaretville man found dead in home

A Margaretville resident was discovered dead in his Main Street home Monday morning after a concerned employee at the Margaretville Post Office reported to state police that he hadn’t picked up his mail in five weeks.

State police responded to the home at 711 Main Street to find the body of Richard Driscoll, 60, the home’s owner. New York State Police Sergeant Andy Leahy told the News that Driscoll may have been dead for as long as five weeks and that he saw no sign of foul play in the home.

Driscoll’s body was removed to the Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville where Delaware County Coroner Dr. Ucci was expected to do an examination and rule on a cause of death.

Driscoll, who wore a long beard, was known as reclusive but was sometimes seen during hunting season walking up Walnut Street and Margaretville Mountain Road carrying a hunting rifle.
Funeral plans for Driscoll, who had no known immediate family, are pending at the Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville.
