Margaretville eCenter building sold
By Brian Sweeney
Quality Leap, LLC has purchased the Margaretville E-Center building from the Catskill Development Foundation.
Margaretville businessman Peter Molnar is the manager of Quality Leap, LLC.
The new owner said he plans to continue operation of the eCenter, but will change the name to the Margaretville Business Center. The eCenter is a “business incubator” that makes office space and services available on an hourly, daily weekly or longer rental format.
“We also hope to expand on the services previously offered by the Central Catskills Chamber of Commerce, including local tourism promotion, to create a one-stop location for businesses of all sizes to conduct business. Whether a sole proprietor, larger business or transient consultants temporarily in need of office support we want to be their resource,” said Mr. Molnar in a prepared statement.
Limited retail space
Mr. Molnar told the News he plans to utilize a section of the building as a retail space for a limited amount of office supplies such as ink cartridges that aren’t available locally.
The third floor of the building has served for many as the home of the Margaretville Masonic Lodge. The Masonic organization had owned the building since 1908, until rising costs and needed repairs resulted in the sale to the Catskill Development Foundation in 2006. Extensive renovations began the following year and the eCenter was officially opened in the fall of 2012.
The second story of the building previously contained apartments, but was largely stripped down to the studs during renovations and has been left unfinished. Mr. Molnar says he has no immediate plans for the second story. The Margaretville Masonic Lodge will continue to utilize the third floor of the building.
“We have absolutely no plans for the upper floors,” Mr. Molnar said. “We’re still moving on our plans for our (Route 28) hotel and don’t want to bite off more than we can chew.”
He added, “We still want to continue on promoting tourism and this is a good adjunct to our lodging business (including the Margaretville Mountain Inn, the Margaretville Motel, Village Suites and Suites on Main). We will provide the business space for the professionals who are coming into the area – we already have the network from people who would utilize it from our lodging business.”
“We couldn't be happier with the deal,” stated Jim Thomson, Chairman of the CDF Board of Directors. “This places the Margaretville Business Center in the hands of the private sector where it belongs, while keeping the use of the building as intended.”
The Catskill Development Foundation, a 501c3, of the Internal Revenue Code, looks to combat community deterioration and stimulate the economy in the Delaware County area by encouraging the formation and development of new businesses, the growth of existing underperforming businesses, and by attracting new businesses to the area.
