Margaret L. Valk passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Wolfeboro Bay Center, NH. She was born August 20, 1930, in Roxbury, the daughter of Burdette and Pauline Blythe Long.
She graduated from Roxbury Central High School, received an Associate in Applied Science degree at SUNY Morrisville, where she was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, and then went on to receive her BA degree at SUNY College at Brockport.
She worked at Colgate University in Hamilton, and then relocated to Mt. Kisco, when she took a job as personnel manager at IBM in White Plains, from which she retired.
She was an active volunteer and tour guide at Lyndhurst National Historic Site in Tarrytown, and was also very active in the arts community in Mt. Kisco. She enjoyed sailing on the Hudson River, and playing tennis with her many friends. She was an accomplished watercolorist and exhibited her paintings in several art shows in the Mt. Kisco area and in Dunedin, FL, where she retired. She was an avid traveler, enjoying trips to England, France, Greece, and Morocco.
Her husband, Julian D. Valk, predeceased her.
She is survived by a brother, Vincent J. Long and his wife, Leta, of Centennial, CO, and a sister, Loisanne Purchell, of Fredericksburg, VA. She is also survived by children; Lee Lilljedahl and her husband, Robert, of New Durham, NH, Richard Valk and his wife, Verna, of Sherburne, Christopher Valk and his wife, Cate, of Bouckville, Julie Ouellette and her husband, Ron, of Wolfeboro, NH, and Valerie Johnson and her husband, Stuart, of Bainbridge Island, WA. And she is survived by grandchildren, Eric Valk Peterson of Brooklyn, Courtney and Taylor Ouellette of Wolfeboro, NH, and Max and Griffin Johnson of Bainbridge Island, WA.
