Margaret Mary Biase, 94, of Elm Street in Pine Hill, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012 at the Golden Hill Health Center.
She was born November 29, 1917 in the Bronx, daughter of the late Frederick and Mary Gastel Schmitt.
Formerly of Bloomfield, New Jersey, Margaret worked her way up through the business world, starting as a hotel telephone switchboard operator. Her excellence in mathematics allowed her to proceed in the hotel accounting division. She was the manager of The Hotel Whitby on West 45th Street in Manhattan, having retired at age 62. She was a talented seamstress, often working on large commercial projects, as well as a talented knitter.
Surviving are her daughter, Margaret Lloyd of Pine Hill, a son, Richard and his wife, Kathleen Biase of Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Also surviving are four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by grandson Chuck and a great-grandson, Joshua Lloyd.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Biase will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 11 a.m. at the E.B. Gormley Funeral Home, 87 Main Street, Phoenicia.
Burial will be in the Shandaken Rural Cemetery.
Friends will be received on Wednesday morning from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.
