LCDR Sanford earns commendation

Fort Dix, NJ — United States Naval Reserve Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) Richard D. Sanford Jr. has been awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal by the Department of the Navy. The medal was awarded on April 14 and presented to LCDR Sanford last weekend at Fort Dix where his reserve unit drills.
The award recognizes LCDR Sanford’s “meritorious service while serving as operations officer for Maritime Expeditionary Security Division Two Three from July 2003 to November 2008 during which he displayed exceptional leadership, outstanding resourcefulness, superior performance and strong initiative.”
LCDR Sanford and his wife Pam live in Huntington Station. In civilian life he is a forensic scientist who works for the New York City Medical Examiner.
LCDR Sanford is the son and stepson of Catskill Mountain News Editor and Publisher Richard Sanford and Mrs. Laurie Sanford of Bloomville.
