Lanza was good for Belleayre

To The Editor:
It is with great remorse that we write this letter. We recently learned of the firing of Tony Lanza from Belleayre Mountain Ski Center. Tony was a positive force to the mountain and the community.
We have been skiers there for many years. Our children and grandchildren have also enjoyed the many activities at Belleayre that Tony promoted. In his role as superintendent of Belleayre, he made a point to make everyone feel comfortable in a family-like atmosphere. He would go out of his way to greet us and make us feel comfortable. The pride he took in caring for the mountain was always evident.

During Hurricane Irene, our daughter and her family found safety at Bellearye when they were evacuated. There, they found Tony caring and offering kind and encouraging words to all those people that lost so much. Our daughter stated that, “Every time she turned around, Tony was there making sure that all the evacuees had what they needed. He turned a disastrous event into a pleasantly memorable one.”

Why would Belleayre let someone like Tony Lanza go? Why does Belleayre not see that Tony was a positive influence to the mountain and the community?

We wish Belleayre would reconsider its decision and get Tony Lanza back, so that he could do what he was so great at. Making Belleayre Mountain a place to be proud of.
