John B. Ackerley
John B. Ackerley, 57, (Hot Rod Farmer) of Andes, beloved husband, father and friend, died Saturday, April 5, 2008 at Albany Medical Center.
He was born in Margaretville on September 25, 1950, the son of Sheldon and Myrtle (Gibson) Ackerley.
John married Barbara Bush of Walton on June 3, 1972.
In earlier years he was a dairy farmer, mechanic at Demeriee Chevrolet in Bainbridge and later opened Hot Rod Farmer Garage and Barb‚Äôs Satellite with success in Andes, to the present.
He was a member of the Andes United Presbyterian Church, REO Club of America, Catskill Mountain Classic Car Club and National Street Rod Association.
Surviving are his loving wife Barbara Bush Ackerley; a son, Bruce and daughter, Betty Jean of Andes; a half-sister, Barbara Ackerley-Scherer of Delhi and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Sheldon and Myrtle Ackerley; a sister, Betty Ackerley-Rathford and his father- and mother-in-law, Barney Bush Sr. and Anna (Hafele) Bush of Walton.
Funeral services were on Wednesday, April 9 at 11 a.m. at the Andes United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bert More officiating.
Burial is in Andes Cemetery, and following services a reception will be held at the Andes Firehall.
Donations in his name may be made to the Andes United Presbyterian Church or Andes Emergency Squad.
Pallbearers will be Barney Bush Jr., Shayne Moshier, Wayne Melvin, Danny Faulkner, Phillip Zwick and Ken Hiratsuka.
Funeral arrangements are by Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
