in

To The Editor:
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the holiday collection for the Heart of the Catskills Humane Society. Thanks to you, the staff at the shelter is able to worry less about supplies they need to provide the excellent care the cats and dogs receive while waiting to be adopted. So that everyone will have a chance to help the shelter, the special holiday collection will continue through Jan. 15. Donations may be left in the labeled boxes in the lobbies of the NBT bank, and Margaretville Central School, both located on Main Street in Margaretville. A list of wish list items is included at the end of this letter.
Do you have new or nearly new items (perhaps unappreciated Christmas gifts) that are taking up space in your home? Please consider donating them to Gifts from the Heart, a cozy little shop at 119 Main Street in Andes. No clothing or electrical appliances, please. Proceeds from sales at Gifts from the Heart directly benefit the Heart of the Catskills Humane Society. For more information call Sue Lemmon 676-4247. Open Saturdays and Sundays 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and weekdays by chance. Through January 15 items for the gift shop may also be left at NBT and Margaretville Central School.
Please visit the shelter on Rte. 10, Bloomville Road, Delhi, N.Y. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call them at 607 746-3080, fax 607 746-7896, or visit them online at: www.heartofthecatskills.org. Learn about their tips for cold weather animal care, their free straw for outdoor doghouses and cat shelters, how to support the shelter by shopping online through iGive.com and eBay, participation in their foster caregivers program, and more!
Wish list items: Needed all year! paper towels nonclay clumping litter bleach and laundry detergent, canned cat food, dishwashing gloves, dog biscuits, washcloths, dishcloths, cat treats, catnip and safe cat toys, Comet cleanser, good, strong puppy toys, dog/puppy/cat/kitten shampoo, collars and leashes, towels, blankets and sheets (not comforters) antiseptic wipes (unscented) fleece mats, copy paper, folders, Post-it notes, gas cards, windshield wiper fluid, pens, oil change certificates and gift certificates. Above all, if you’re looking for a furry companion, please consider adopting one or more of the cats and dogs at the Heart of the Catskills Humane Society. Our pets rely on us, if you find you can no longer care for your current pet, surrender him or her to the shelter. They do everything possible to find forever homes for all the animals in their care. Again, grateful thanks to everyone for your support of the Humane Society. God bless you and best wishes for the New Year.
