Hunter-Tannersville tennis squad downs Rockets
The Roxbury Rockets tennis team hosted the Wildcats of Hunter-Tannersville in the last match of the regular season on Thursday, from which Hunter emerged with a 5-2 victory.
Hunter took the top two matches as their top-ranked singles player, Zack Clark, defeated Roxbury’s number-one seed Christian Schor 9-2 and second-seeded Jessie Vanucci defeated Roxbury’s Alisa Fersch 7-5 in a tiebreaker.
Roxbury won the third- and fourth-place singles matches, with number three Jon Dykstra defeating Ken Arugyma 10-8 and Roxbury’s Kevin Lutz defeating Hunter’s Sylwia Stopka 9-6 in the number four match.
Hunter’s fifth-seeded David Sandler defeated Roxbury’s Brittney Bell, 9-0.
In doubles competition, a closely-fought match-up in the number one spot was decided in a tiebreaker with Hunter’s duo of Kristen Spychalsky and Alicia Buczek defeating Roxbury’s team of Caitlin Brew and Tiffany Faulkner 7-5.
Hunter won the doubles match in the number two spot by forfeit.
