Hospital receives grant for kids wellness program

Margaretville — The Margaretville Hospital campus of HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley has received a $3,000 grant to help fund its “Nutritional Wellness for Kids” program.

Pamela Buono, MS, RD, CDN, CDE, a certified diabetes educator, will visit Margaretville Central School monthly to engage children on nutrition, chronic disease prevention and healthy eating habits using hands-on, interactive activities, programs and samplings. Buono will also help teachers highlight topics relevant to each grade level.

Anthony Albanese, superintendent of Margaretville Central School, said he supports the new community outreach initiative.

“Wellness has been an area of concern for our youth across our nation and this concern led to the formation in 2005 of a Wellness Committee at MCS,” said Albanese. “I wholeheartedly endorse this project, which would allow us to better meet our shared goals for creating and supporting a healthy community.”

Funding from local sources will be sought to continue the program beyond its grant year.
