Helen Bertha Avery, 95, of Margaretville passed away Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009 at Mountainside Residential Care Center, Margaretville. She was born Jan. 16, 1914 in Roxbury, the daughter of Ernest and Harriet (Hitchcock) Ploutz.
She graduated from Roxbury Central School in 1932 and from Albany Business College in 1935.
Helen’s first marriage was to Floyd H. Shultis on June 10, 1936. He died in 1952. She then married Kenneth B. Avery on March 7, 1968. He died in 1975.
Helen worked for the law office of Arthur F. Bouton in Roxbury for 13 years. She was employed at the office of Harry Miller in Margaretville for two years. She also worked for William Sperling for 10 years and the Fuelane Corp. for two years.
She attended the Jay Gould Memorial Reformed Church in Roxbury.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14 at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville with the Rev. Richard Dykstra, officiating.
Burial is in Roxbury Cemetery, Roxbury.
