Hazel Acampa, 86, of Woodlands, Texas, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009 at her son’s home in Texas where she had made her home.
She was born Oct. 15, 1922 in Montreal, the daughter of the late Stephen and Louise Canadian Delisle.
She and her late husband Frank owned and operated a milk-fed veal farm in Bovina Center from 1978 through 1987.
She then moved to Roxbury, and later Margaretville where she was a devout and active parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish. She was instrumental in several church fund-raisers, including being editor in chief of the cookbook. She was a talented baker and decorated spectacular cakes for Baby Jesus’ birthday celebration with the Very Reverend Robert Purcell.
Hazel was a former volunteer at Margaretville Memorial Hospital. She was also an artist who enjoyed working with both pastels and charcoal. She was well-known for entertaining very large gatherings of guests each summer. In 1992 she retired to Florida.
Surviving are her son, Jerry of Texas; a sister, Doris LaTorre and her husband, Frank of Rocky Point; a sister-in-law, Grace Delisle of Canada and a goddaughter, Carol Iovine of Rocky Point. Several nieces, nephews, grand- and great-grand nieces and nephews also survive.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank in 1988.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31 at St. Francis de Sales Church, Main St., Phoenicia.
A spring burial will be in the Margaretville Annex Ceme-tery.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the E.B. Gormley Funeral Home, 87 Main St., Phoenicia.
