Grace Oakley

Grace Katherine Oakley, 91, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2013 at her home.
She was born January 20, 1922 in South Kortright, the daughter of John and Marion (Oblinski) Bisbee.

She married Clifton O. Oakley on January 11, 1941 in the South Kortright Rectory.
Grace worked as the cafeteria manager of Grand Gorge Central School from 1964-1980, as well as working as the cook at Charles and Beanie Moore’s Motel/Resort in Prattsville. In addition to her many dedicated years on the family farm, she also cleaned houses and worked at Hank and Martha Dayton’s making maple syrup. Lastly, she catered many events serving up her delicious food recipes and beautiful cakes and fruited pies that she made for all occasions.

Grace’s many hobbies included quilting, tri chem. (liquid embroidery), camping in her early years, ceramics, gardening and watching the various birds come to her many bird feeders.

She served in the American Legion Auxiliary, Earl B. Dudley Post 686, Grand Gorge, in various offices and was a Gold Star Mother. She was also a member of the Windy Ridge and Pomona Granges.
Grace had a love for country music and that love brought her to visit Branson, MO and Nashville, TN so she could see many famous country singers. She also had a passion for square dancing and polka which kept her vibrant and full of life. In addition, she loved spending time with her family and friends.

Grace is survived by her husband, Cliff, who most recently celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary. Also surviving is her sister Helen (Kenneth) Martin; a son, Charles; two daughters, Jane and Kathy; several grandchildren, great-grand children and great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, friends and best friend and companion “Princess,” her Pomeranian. She was pre-deceased by two sons, PFC James Ronald in 1968 and Donald William in 2008, and a great-granddaughter, Sierra Elizabeth in 1995.

Calling hours will be held at the Miller Funeral Home in Roxbury on Wednesday, Feb. 13 from 6-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at the Miller Funeral Home in Roxbury on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013. Burial will be held at a later date in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Grace’s name may be made to the Grand Gorge Rescue Squad or Fire Department.
