German-American Club's Oktoberfest celebrated 10th year
The German-American Club of the Northern Catskills, Inc. recently celebrated its 10th annual Oktoberfest at Belleayre with almost 700 revelers.
There was non-stop music by the Schwarzenegger Connection; the folk dancing group Germania Almrausch entertained the audience with the Bavarian version of “bench pressing.”
Bratwurst and Leberkaes platters with Sauerkraut and homemade potato salad, various soups and lots of desserts kept everyone fortified. Imported Spaten and Franziskaner beers flowed.
Over 100 gifts were raffled off and three door prizes were awarded: a basket of German food products, a Spaten weekend bag and a $100 gift certificate for dinner at the Phoenix Restaurant at the Emerson Resort & Spa in Mt. Tremper.
Thanks to everyone who supported our club’s annual fundraiser which makes it possible to contribute to local hospitals, fire departments, EMS, cancer and Alzheimer’s research, the animal shelter, Fisher House for returning servicemen and college scholarships. A great big “Danke Schon” also to Belleayre Mtn Ski Center for providing the perfect setting, their Discovery Lodge.
Our meetings are generally held on the second Sunday of the month, 11 a.m. at the Arkville Firehall. Anyone of Germanic heritage aged 21 and over is welcome to join.

We are a social as well as philanthropic organization and our goal is to bring a little “Gemutlichkeit” (atmosphere) to this corner of the Catskills. So mark your calendar for our next Oktoberfest, October 16, 2010.
