Genevieve H. Quackenbush, 83, of Delhi, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009 at home surrounded by her family. She was born Jan. 3, 1926 in Prattsville, the daughter of Abram and Etta (Plankenhorn) Post. She married Vetal Quackenbush in 1946.
A lifelong area resident, Genevieve was employed as a bus driver for the Gilboa-Conesville School District for 15 years, retiring in 1983. After her retirement she became involved in the senior meals program in Grand Gorge.
Genevieve was a member of the Prattsville Rescue Squad, the Ladies Auxiliary and the Dutch Reformed Church, Prattsville. She relocated to the Delhi area 10 years ago to be nearer her family.
Genevieve will always be remembered for the delicious wedding cakes and birthday cakes she made for friends and family. Among the many hobbies she enjoyed, crocheting was one of her favorites.
Surviving are her children, Cynthia VanTassel of Delhi, Peter Quackenbush of California and Timothy Quackenbush of Florida; grandchildren, Traci Brewster and Michelle Tait, both of Delhi, Everett Newcomb of Florida, Amy Doenges of Oneonta and Donald VanTassel of Hobart; great-grandchildren, Trudie Roe, Joshua Doenges, Devin Doenges, Trevor Doenges, Christin Doenges, Santana Brewster, Cody Brewster, Corey Pitt, Christopher Pitt and Matthew Tait, all of Delhi; Michael Armstrong of Albany, Courtney Doenges of Warwick, Cassandra Armstrong of Cobleskill, Beverly Newcomb and Everett Newcomb Jr., both of Florida and Krystal VanTassel, Erika VanTassel and Brandon VanTassel of Hobart.
She was predeceased by her husband, Vetal Quackenbush in 1973.
A funeral service was held Monday, Nov. 9 at 3 p.m. at the Dutch Reformed Church, Rte. 23, Prattsville, with Rev. Greg Town officiating.
Burial took place in Fairlawn Cemetery, Prattsville, following the service.
Donations are asked to be given to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. in loving memory of Genevieve Helen Quackenbush.
Arrangements were by the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.
